Introduction Kyokushin Okinawa
In April 1988 Sosai Masutatsu Oyama appointed Yasuhiro Shichinohe, who was at that time instructor at Tokyo Honbu Dojo, as Branch Chief of the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan Okinawa Branch.
The first training was held on May 2nd in a Kindergarten in Urasoe-shi. However the Branch’s activities became full-length only the following month, when opening the dojo in Izumizaki, in Naha-shi, the capital of the prefecture, this would become the Honbu dojo of Okinawa. After that from Nago-shi to Ishigaki Island, 14dojo were opened in Okinawa Prefecture.
In the 5th year after establishing the Branch, the all Kyushu Karate Open Tournament was held in Okinawa(April 1993)and Sosai Masutatsu Oyama attended it.
From the year after than, every year the All.
Okinawa Karate Open Tournament is held, it is open for all full contact competitors of the prefecture. in this tournament there are competitors from Okinawa from several styles, from Elementary School divisions till adults.
winners of this tournament are encouraged to take part in the National Tournament and try to obtain good places.
In April 2001 the Kyokushin Okinawa Branch certifies with the Okinawa Prefecture authorities that the organization is a Non Profit Organization with the purpose of through the training of Kyokushin educating the rising generation.
In 2008 Kyokushin Okinawa celebrates its 20th Anniversary.
The all Japan Kyokushin Union will stage the 2nd Kyokushin Union Cup, World Karate Championship in Okinawa on January 19-20, 2008.
